Nationalism And Globalisation

Most people would say both of these cannot exist at the same time. I on the other hand believe it is possible although with a lot of effort. Nationalism is always thinking about your nation and its progress first which would also mean that people who call themselves nationalists would also understand that sometimes to be looking out for the country’s interests would also meaning choosing globalisation. Because after all globalisation helps us represent our nation makes it possible for us to take an international stand. In the kind of world we live in today to think a nation can exist on its own with no interaction with other nations would be absurd but we also need to keep in mind what makes us a different nation. The argument between nationalism and globalisation can never really come to single solution for every policy decision that a country makes, what really needs to be found is a balance.
A very good example that can be mentioned here is the findings from the work of P. Sainath, he talks about how we’re selling our country’s agricultural business to corporations outside while our own farmers do not get fair prices for their produce or even loans to improve their harvest or help feed their families. We are letting so many people in our country who are the way the producers of the food grains we consume go hungry and at the same time, exporting food grains for the cattle in Europe. This is not the kind of globalisation we are aiming at, any globalisation at the cost of our own citizens, our culture is not the globalisation that will benefit our nation in the long run. Nationalists should not be trying to wi n the battle against globalisation instead they should trying to find ways to find balance between nationalism and globalisation.
