A Visit To The Shari Academy

Shari Academy was an unexpected event in the day, but it was just another thing that reminded me that being a BMM student in St.Xaviers College will hardly ever mean sitting in class with a bunch of books going through lessons and will take me to new places and will mean new experiences everyday. The Academy was also in the most unexpected little place kind of hidden away from the rest of the world or I'd like to think.

All of us took a bunch of pictures of the exhibition and had the chance to talk to the students of the Academy who had taken these pictures. All of them were friendly and pleased to be explaining to us the concepts and ideas behind their work and the deeper meaning of the pictures that had been displayed.
Some of these pictures particularly caught my attention

i loved how the student has captured the different shades of yellow which is the most dominant colour in this picture, this picture is what i would call aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. the colour yellow also gives you the feeling of warmth reminding you of the sun, something i must say i have dearly missed since moving to Mumbai, the 3-3.5 months i have spent here have been full of rainfall and grey skies.

This picture makes your heart so happy the first time that  you see it, it is so simple yet so touching. Just one glance and it makes you think about so many different, childhood, what the real idea of happiness is? About friends or even siblings

This one in particular,  stayed with me for a while because the local train system of the city fascinates me a lot, coming from a town that was much smaller geographically and where the idea of public transport on such a large scale is a foreign idea. How the locals are connecting this town is truly a beautiful concept and how everybody from all areas of the city use this transport.

All these pictures, including this one i believe carry the essence of this city, I also love the fact that the students chose street photography as their main point of focus. The beaches, the local stations, the street markets, all feel like an attempt to try and capture the simplicity and the beauty of Mumbai. Id want to end by saying that going to the Shari Academy and talking to the students is not something i would've wanted to miss out on.

  1. Although you have a great take on the pictures and Shari Academy itself, the exhibition also was a much larger concept of having underprivileged children of Salaam Bombay put it up. Hope you'd written alot more about that as well. Good writing otherwise!
