Covid 19 and a thousand other problems

I know how all of us repeatedly talk about what a horrible thing this virus is and how it has ruined our lives. But most of us who have a platform to complain about it on are still the privileged lot. This pandemic is about so much more than us not being able to go out for a drink with our friends.

All colleges, schools and other kinds of work places were shut down because of the countrywide lockdown. Most people have been at home for almost seven months now. A lot of people feel like they have lost their purpose in life and its making them feel helpless, on the other hand it has also made us question our priorities and what is it that is really important in life. For students, the shift to online classes has been a drastic one. Being stuck at home with a computer screen to look for hours not only sounds unpleasant but carries with it a number of health problems like headache and poor eyesight. On another level the internet connectivity problems in most parts of our country makes it impossible for some children to attend these online classes properly, leading loss in attendance and them feeling left out and even more isolated.

Most of the teachers are also fed up with such frequent use of  technology for taking their classes and are still adapting to the changes.

And the students are still not the most affected group after all of this, the unbelievable unemployment levels continuously rising and the country’s GDP continuously falling are also adding to the already innumerable problems faced by our country. The pressure on parents to keep their jobs and provide for their children the best they can must be a great burden. But we see that, that’s mostly the case for the poor and middle class people. The rich are getting richer, it is like an opportunity for them to exploit the common man, which frustrates the middle and lower classes even more. And of course, the fact that the best of the medical facilities during this pandemic will be reserved for the rich escapes nobody’s knowledge. It is a matter of such shame that in our country, the value of life is the same as the value of your possessions and how much you earn.

Routines have collapsed, for most people, their support systems have collapsed, people they used to see and work with everyday, places they saw everyday on their way to and from work, coffee shops they went to, to take a break from their busy schedules, classes they were taking that made them feel alive. Everything gone in a puff. No warning, no ending date.

During this entire lockdown period, most people have been responsible and stayed at home for most part ensure the safety of their loved ones, but there have been people have been irresponsible and have been absolutely no help in controlling the spread of the virus and its shameful to see.
